Synopsis

Think about the first time! The first time is always especially exciting – it is magic – something you will never forget. Think of a country that had first gone through 350 years of racial oppression, later known as Apartheid, before it witnessed a peaceful reconciliation. And then you think about any country hosting the football World Cup. People go nuts. Everyone and even those who have never dealt with football before become obsessed by a certain kind of football fever and thus passionate supporters. They have a huge peaceful party and are happy to live in a nation that is the centre of the world for over four weeks.

“Fever“ is a colourful portrait about the expectations created by a ball. It’s about faith, love and hope over a two-year period until the Confederations Cup in June 2009. During this time, the film follows people from three generations of South Africans, introducing their today’s society. Awaiting the biggest football event on earth, being held for the first time on the African continent, they are carried by the power of imagination.
This film is enthralling and fascinating. It will be a warm-up for the greatest soccer event on earth, evoking full sympathy for the spirit, passion, and power of South Africa.
